I mean, you've told me in the past, Will, that Reynolds himself was not in a particularly good mood.

He was not in a particularly good place when this film was made and kind of found his own performance rather phoned in, which is pretty funny when you watch it because it's absolutely masterful.

Yeah, apparently he and Anderson didn't get along at all.

The testimony of various other actors who worked on

the movie suggests that Reynolds was coming to terms with his own diminished star status at this

point. You know, he was one of the very, very biggest stars of the 70s and 80s. And I think it was

humbling for him to be, as he saw it on the decline, part of an ensemble cast working for this, I don't know,

27-year-old director in a story that involved pornography. Supposedly, after he saw the first

cut of the movie, he fired his agent, which is hilarious, because he was later nominated for

an Oscar, and I feel like this is, this is probably, you know, with all due respect to

deliverance and all those other films, this is probably the first movie that a lot of people

think of when they think of Bert Reynolds now. And it is such an incredible performance. It's so

disciplined, it's so contained. Jack Horner is in many ways, you know, the most stable and kind

of put together of the major characters.

He is the centrifugal force around which so many of them are kind of orbiting.

He is very serious about what he does, which is make movies with people having sex in them and sell those movies.

He has a real sense of pride about them, which I suppose comes through in the mockumentary where he's like, yeah, I actually, I block all the porn scenes.

I don't let him block his own scenes.

But also in a scene I know we'll discuss, which is the scene modeled on on the prowl, when he gets outraged at the guy, he's partly getting outraged on Roller Girl, Heather Graham's behalf. He says something

to the effect of, like, come on, man, this is Roller Girl. In tones the suggestion, have some

respect. You're working with Roller Girl here. And you're a fucking amateur. Who the fuck are you?
