Seinfeld's an interesting figure, among other things, because he is an era-defining comedian with an encyclopedic knowledge of the art form, who is nevertheless belligerently opposed to comedy as a means of personal expression, as a forum for political debate.

The compliment that people often give Seinfeld as a stand-up is that he's a master

craftsman, and indeed that's the image, I think, that he's tried to cultivate for himself.

You see him interviewed, and he's always talking about, like, the rigorous work and science that

comes to, you know, crafting a perfect joke. He loves that. He loves the actual nuts and bolts of creating jokes that work

like a chair works. They're sturdy and they have a strong foundation. But he has contempt for the

idea of comedy as anything more than that. And all of this is interesting when you know that within

Jerry Seinfeld, there's there's obviously a deep anger.

Like, like, and in this moment, this moment of all moments, uh, he's made a Pop-Tarts movie.

And like, he's made this movie that is, again, militantly, politically, apolitical.

That is rigorously not about anything.

They called the show Seinfeld, the show about nothing.

But this is truly, really and truly, the film about nothing.

Although there's one bit towards the end that we'll talk about that, you know, has some fun political, some ideology going on there, I think.

Well, this is the thing.

It's like, inevitably, there is

ideology in a movie like this, but because he's consciously seeking to avoid it, he falls upon,

like, whatever he thinks the ambient wisdom is. And the reception to this movie so far has been

quite brutal. It was number one on Netflix in its first week, but it apparently had, like,

relatively low viewership numbers for a number one on Netflix movie.
