Well, speaking of America, I mean, I would feel remiss if we didn't talk about the absolutely

absurd roller coaster that has been the Biden White House's response to the events of the past few

weeks. I mean, it's actually difficult, I think, at this point, to follow what the current

line is, because it's oscillated so wildly back and forth. I mean, just a few weeks ago when

the Supreme Court ruling happened, the line was, and this is a direct quote from Biden, no

executive action from the president. That's what the White House said. You know, the line was,

instead, we looked to the November elections. This fall rose on the ballot. That was the line.

Rose not on the ballot. That was the line.

Rose not on the ballot. It was overturned. I don't know if they saw that. Well, I mean, this is skipping ahead a little bit, but I mean, the thing that is perplexing, I mean, also not perplexing,

but I mean, on the face of it, the thing that's perplexing about this whole line of just like, oh, you know, rose on the

ballot in November or, you know, I think it was Kamala Harris, said something to the effect of like,

help us elect a pro-choice Congress in November. I mean, what is the message that's accompanying

that, right? It wouldn't be a bad message necessarily if there was something to go with it.

You know, if it was paired with some kind of corresponding rallying cry if it was give us x number of seats and we'll do

why you know that would maybe be something but these people can't and don't want to be on the hook

for anything the entire model of politics that the modern democratic party is erected around has to preclude the idea, I suppose, on the one hand, that the Democrats actually exist to govern, that they exist to implement an agenda in some kind of proactive way, right?

I mean, their attitude towards reproductive rights has been for a long time that we have to vote for us to protect these things.

But it hasn't been and part of our program is that we're going to codify this, right?

Obama did promise to do that in 2008 and then reneged on it pretty cynically.

The whole model of politics for the Democrats is premised on that and also relatedly, um, the idea that they're not responsive

to pressure from below. They're not there to respond to pressure from activists or voters.
