And it happens again and again in the show where the members of the Bartlett administration

always know what's best for everybody.

Whether it's a black congressman who doesn't feel like they're doing what they need to do

on gun control legislation, whether it's these New Hampshire former industrial workers

who are critical rightly of the trade deals.

And that seemed to describe Luke, Bradley Wifford's character is all like, well, tell them

about our economic policies and tell them that we've done and that the markets are

up and tell them that that has any like material impact on their lives.

Like that would be persuasive at all.

And those are the moments that are so crazy making because the show doesn't paint

Bradley Whitford's character as wrong. Like we're supposed to be like, yeah, like, yeah,

those are great arguments. And he sends Donna off back into the cold New Hampshire night to make

that case. Sorry I'm only happy with you that episode. But it's absurd. Yeah, I think that's exactly right.

And you see it with this whole device of the chess games, the different chess games that are going on in this episode.

Yeah.

Where President Bartlett is playing games with Toby Ziegler and Sam Seaborne.

And perhaps there's a further chess game I'm missing.

I can't remember. And at one point, you hear Bartlett, you know, he sermonizes on Mongol history, which he

knows a lot about, of course.

He knows everything about everything.

He mumbles something when, when Sam or Toby makes the first move about how, oh, I see you're

playing the, you know, the, we're doing Fibonacci chess or whatever.
