You wrote a book called The Gay Uncle's Guide to Parenting.

In each chapter you shame a different parent.

I wouldn't really say shame.

I would say tell a humorous narrative about something connected to one of the major struggles in

child development. Is that better?

Welcome to Rumbull's Trip Vermont. That's my friend Brett Burke and I was one of those

parents he schooled in his book the gay uncle's guide to parenting.

Brett got a very early start as a teacher. By the time he was 25, he was the director of a progressive preschool in the East Village in New York City.

There was a lot of rolling around in Tompkins Square Park.

So by the time he was 30 and his friends started having kids,

Brett had been working professionally with kids for a really long time.

And after watching us flail around for a few years as early parents,

he figured he'd write a book about us and for us.

In this conversation we talk about some of the more hilarious choices he's seen parents make

and what he makes of them.

And despite the fact that Brett is trained as a preschool teacher, there is plenty
