Hi there, from CNN. I'm Charlie Drever with the five things you need to know for Monday, September 22nd.

We start with the mounting pressure Israel is facing over its war in Gaza. France will be part of

the handful of European countries that will pledge to formally recognize a Palestinian state

at this week's UN General Assembly. They'll be joining the likes of the UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal, which did so yesterday.

And as CNN's Orrin Lieberman explains, we don't know yet how Israel will respond.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that he would respond in some fashion, but

first he needs to meet with President Donald Trump, a meeting that's happening

early next week. And why is that so critical? Because any response, whether it's an annexation

of parts or all of the occupied West Bank, whether it's a closure of consulates of some of these

countries, that will almost certainly require U.S. backing, and that is what Netanyahu needs here.

Trump's borderzar Tom Homan is under the spotlight after multiple reports that he accepted

a bag of cash worth $50,000 last year.
