Now, the very first disciples began a nine-day novena leading up to Pentecost in the upper room after the

ascension.

So today we are beginning our preparation for Pentecost through these nine days of Rosary meditations. Now Pentecost celebrates the birth of the church, the mystical body of Christ.

And St Paul tells us in Colosians chapter 1 that Jesus is the head and

the church is his body. So we are the members of the mystical body of Christ.

Jesus and his body, the Church, are conceived and born in a similar way,

that is, by the power of the Holy Spirit and the maternal cooperation of Mary.
