people here, you know, outside of an urban center,

the only thing that they ever hear about trans

comes through, sort of the activism and the career theory

and now it's in the school system.

And remember there was an incident that my last small town that I was living in where somebody, it was our federal election and this guy, I mean this is a town kind of

of rough around the edges, very working class town of truckers and farmers and

imagine you know a farmer who isn't part of the queer community has no exposure to all this

stuff goes to your election's polling station and they didn't receive a voter card so they have to

register to be a voter. In Canada we just do that by presenting ID to prove our address.

So imagine that the staff at the polling station has to ask you, well, are you a man or a woman?

So this is what now is happening. This is part of our government policies, right?

So any government worker has to ask certain questions now.

So it has to ask these farmers and these truckers, are you male or female?

And they just think, are you sniffing glue?

Like to them, it's such a bizarre offensive question

to be asked.

And then in our public school systems now in every community teachers are supposed to teach about gender and sexuality and so kids are coming home from school saying my teacher taught me there's a hundred genders and it's making people very upset and angry and

and they think that these things are all coming from every trans and gay person out there.

I think they think that we're all the sort of in on this

and are promoting this stuff,

but it's actually our government that's mandating these policies and it makes life for someone like me who's just trying to do my best with the hand that I was dealt and integrate into life and I don't really think about gender very often until I entered reentered the public conversation.

I wasn't thinking about gender at all.
