You unlock this door with the key of imagination.

Beyond it is another dimension. A dimension of sound,

and a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both

shadow and substance of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the twilight zone.

Occasionally we'll come to to the Twilight Zone.

Occasionally we'll come to an episode of the Twilight Zone that necessitates not exactly a deep dive, but perhaps a deeper dive than what can be contained in one of our regular episodes of the Twilight Zone podcast.

So tonight I'd like you to join me here by the fire to take that slightly deeper dive when we delve into a little bit of the history of our upcoming episode, The Long Morrow.

Because the Long Morrow was loosely based upon the O. Henry's story, the gift of the Magi.

We will talk a little bit more about this in our main episode about how this ties into the twilight zone.

But for now, I thought it would be a good idea to reacquaint ourselves with the story itself.

Now I say reacquaint because I do think that most of us have probably read or had read to us or heard this story in one form or another.

It's a story about what we will sacrifice for someone that we love, but also about how much we can stand them sacrificing for us, even if that

sacrifice is given willingly, because sometimes living with their sacrifice is harder than

the ones that you have had to make. So tonight before we head for the stars in the Twilight Zone,

we keep our feet firmly on the ground

with a reading from the Canadian actor and singer Lorne Green,

who in 1965 released an album of Christmas stories and songs called Have a Happy Holiday.
