colleague and co-host and friend, and we're thrilled to have Charles Burton returned from

Europe to speak to us about a story that spilled across all newspaper headlines these

last days.

Washington Post version, U.S. Britain sanctioned China for broad 14-year

hacking campaign. Subhead. Chinese state-linked hackers targeted White

House officials along with senior agency staff and

senators and representatives from both major political parties. Charles, a very

good evening to you. Chinese hacking has been a story that has plagued the US at least as I recall since

Barack Obama met in California with the leader of China.

I don't know whether it was

who's in Tao or she jenping at the time, said don't do this and there were

promises from the leader we won't do it anymore or yes of course and yet now we have this headline is this a

matter of the Chinese business model we must steal good evening to you Charles

good evening well i think that certainly we must deal as part of it. In other words, obtaining

trade information that would be a benefit to the Chinese state. And that was what

Obama and Xi Jinping said, we won't do that anymore.

You know we'll do spying for strategic and military things but we won't try and steal each

others trade secrets which of course you know trying to persist it in doing that but I think that the

indictment which came out of the Eastern District of New York charging seven

Chinese nationals in China with engaging in 14 years of targeting US and foreign

critics, business people, parliamentarians, members of Congress, through a hacking institution run out of the
