Nuclear Weapons Here's John Bachelor. Nuclear weapons, nuclear arms, much in the news, especially when the Kremlin speaks about Ukraine.

The larger story is that we have three nuclear-powered countries capable of

destroying each other, not just two the way we did in the first Cold War of the 20th century.

And the news from the Wall Street Journal was promising

until the headline, China, US,

to meet for rare nuclear arms control talks and then we turn to the follow-up which was

disappointing that the talks were not talks they were discussion that the talks were not negotiations, they were discussion, and there is disappointment following this discussion.

I welcome Henry Sikoski, the executive director of the Non-proliferation Policy Education Center.

Henry, a very good evening to you. I was misled by the Wall Street Journal's initial idea that these talks were substantive or

negotiations. What is the reluctance and what do we know? Good evening to you Henry.

Good evening. Yeah, they promised us a Cadillac, but threw us a hub cap. That's all we got.

And the reason I think this talk or discussions occurred was to check the box on something that most people

legally don't know about. Under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which is getting ready for a review,

they do them every five years,

you're supposed to be, as a member that would have nuclear weapons, China and the United States,

engaged in good faith efforts to negotiate an end to the nuclear arms race.

Well, one thing you can say about the Chinese, they

haven't done anything in good faith in that category and they were being called

out not only by Trump but by Biden being in breach of their obligations under that

treaty. Well they now can claim they check the box without doing a darn
