This is CBS I and the world. I'm John'm John Bachelor. The People's Republic of China,

declaring its hostility towards Taiwan and the whole region, the South China Sea,

the Philippines, expressing that through the PLA Navy. We can see the warships.

We can see the incidents such as the one recently with Australia using forward casting sonar to damage the divers in the water and then claiming

that Australia is lying about why the ship was at the Tewumba was it full stop, hostile action. But that is something

we can see. What we can't see is China's capabilities in terms of its fleet,

its Air Force, its nuclear weapons,

and something new, the hypersonic missiles.

To help me with this, I welcome Grant Neusham.

He is a retired U.S. Marine officer, former U.S. diplomat,

author most recently of when China attacks a warning to America. Grant, my consistent understanding over the years is that every time a new weapon system comes

up in connection to the People's Republic of China, we're assured by public voices, never certain, but they come from the apparatus in Washington,

that they're playing catch-up, that we're well ahead.
