and with into our study of God's Word. On Sunday mornings, we're going through

1 Corinthians chapter by chapter verse by verse, and today our text will be chapter 14

and verses 8 through 14. So once you find your way there, if you're able, ask you to stand.

the Apostle Paul pardon me by the Holy Spirit is writing to the Corinthians and says

in verse 8 again if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?

So it is with you, verse 9.

Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you're

saying?

You will just be speaking into the air. Undoubtedly, there are all sorts of languages in the

world, yet none of them is without meaning. If then, verse 11, I do not grasp the meaning of what

someone is saying. I'm a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me.

So it is with you.

Since you are eager for the gifts of the spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.

For this reason, verse 13, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

Let's pray.

Lord, we need for your Holy Spirit to give us understanding of the text that we have before us today.

We need for you, Lord, to speak into our lives in and through the text that we have before us today as well.

Lord, you see every heart in this church and you know every need of every heart in this church.

So Lord, will you minister through your word to those needs we pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
