Let's get into our study of God's Word.

Tonight we begin a new book, Second Kings, which is actually a continuation of the narrative

in First Kings.

So why don't you turn there if you're not there already and once you do we can pray and ask

God's blessing on our time together in His Word if you would not there already. And once you do, we can pray and ask God's blessing on our time together

in His Word, if you would join with me.

Loving Heavenly Father, we're so thankful to you for your word and for these midweek

studies that we have here on Thursday nights. It's for some, if not most of us, become

a highlight of our week. And Lord, we really look forward to this time and we look forward

to what you're going to do in our time together in your word. So Lord, we're looking to you now to speak into

our lives in and through our study of your Word and, Lord, reveal the truths that you would

have us to know and apply to our lives. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. All right, let's jump in. This is an interesting

chapter. I don't know for those of you who read ahead to stay ahead, you already know

what's ahead. It's really quite interesting. Verse 1, Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. Now Ahaziah, this is Ahab's son, fell through the lattice

of his upper room in Samaria. I'm sorry if I'm laughing. This was a serious injury and was

injured. So he sent messengers and said to them,

go inquire of Baalzebub, the God, lowercase G of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury.

A couple thoughts here right at the beginning. And the first has to do

with this Ahaziah, this king of Israel, seeking this false Philistine God Baalzebub.

I guess in a way we shouldn't be surprised, if you really think about it, this is an

evil king, and his father was Ahab and his mother was Jezebel. I think it's that saying the apple

doesn't fall too far from the tree.
