where tonight we are tracking breaking news in the southeast as the

incredibly powerful Hurricane Helene is hitting the Florida coast. I want to

bring in our own Bill Karens with the latest bill. What's going on down there?

A horrific storm. the storm surge is in

areas that people have never seen the water on the west coast of Florida the big bend

is now getting that 20-foot storm surge and the storm itself is now moving

inland with the destructive winds. You can see it to yourself. This is the

shoreline right here and once half of the eye crosses the coast will get

the official landfall from the National Hurricane Center.

So what's historic about this is that this big bend region here of Florida in our recorded history

of hurricanes, which goes back to the mid 1800s, we've never had a category four or five, make

landfall in this area.

So this has never happened before.

That's why we're talking about storm surge values of the highest ever recorded in this portion of Florida. So this destructive
