I'm Stephanie Ruhl, live from Carnegie Mellon

University in Pittsburgh, or today Vice President Kamala Harris laid out her

economic vision for this country. We'll have my full one-on-one interview with her in just a couple of minutes,

but first there is major breaking news in New York City tonight.

The Mayor Eric Adams is expected to face federal charges as early as tomorrow.

Adams said that any charges against him would be entirely false and based on lies.

I want to bring in former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance who spent 25 years as a federal prosecutor.

Joyce, I leave New York City for one single night and the whole place goes on fire.

What do we know and where does this whole situation go from here?

Right, so clearly you can't ever leave again, Steph.

What appears to be the case here is that federal prosecutors have gone to a grand jury,

they've obtained an indictment that has been sealed.

That's why we don't know any of the details.

Of course, while it's sealed, no one on the government side of the equation can

release any details about the indictment or even its existence so it's very

likely that what we're learning comes from the defense side of the equation, but certainly

not from law enforcement or prosecutors.

What does it tell you that this is the same Department of Justice that Donald

Trump accuses of conducting a witch hunt against him is now indicting a

Democratic mayor? Right, look, you know, Donald Trump's allegations serve Donald Trump, and they're simply not the truth.
