Summary

The snow’s been falling here in Crested Butte, and we’re already fantasizing about those really deep days. So today, Jonathan Ellsworth and Paul Forward are discussing pow skis. They start by making the case for wide pow skis, then, they talk about a bunch of current pow skis, old pow skis, and some design specifics that they think are good ideas when you’re building a wide ski that’s designed to float for days.

Hey everybody, welcome back to Gear 30 on the Blister Podcast Network,

0:16.0

I'm Jonathan Ellsworth, the founder of Blister, and you can check out everything.

0:21.6

We're doing and reviewing over at blisterreview.com.

0:26.7

All right, today we've got a really fun one for you.

0:29.7

The snow has been falling here in Crested Butte, so it's really got me daydreaming about those

0:36.5

really deep days, the days we all dream about.

0:40.8

And given that, I figured we should talk about some Fat Powskies with Blister reviewer Paul Forward.

0:49.0

Well, and I guess actually the other thing I should say here is that Paul and I recently recorded a blister cinematic conversation

0:55.7

about the new Sitka film starring Paul. And we mentioned there that I hopped on to record that

1:03.1

conversation. But Paul and I just talked about Powskies for 30 minutes first. And so we said we should

1:09.2

probably do this again. But then it started snowing here.

1:12.6

And then I was like, okay, no, let's do this. Let's do a proper Gear 30 conversation about

1:17.0

Powskies. So anyway, that's the kind of origin story for what you're going to be hearing about today.

1:24.1

And to get started, Paul and I make the case for really wide Powskis. And to get started, Paul and I make the case for really wide pow skis. And that might be

1:32.3

particularly interesting for those of you who have never skied on something that's 120 millimeters

1:39.2

or wider. But we make the case about why and in what sort of conditions and circumstances

1:46.3

and terrain, a really fat ski can be without question the best tool for the job. And then,

1:54.3

Paul and I talk about a ton of current powder skis and some POW skis that have been discontinued for quite a long time.

2:03.9

And along the way, he and I talk about some design specifics that we think are really good ideas

2:11.4

when you are looking to build a wide ski that is designed to float for days.

2:19.0

Now, for those of you who would rather be thinking about skinny skis and carving turns right now,
