Welcome to One Minute Scripter Study, a Come Follow Me podcast. We are your host, Kristen Walker Smith and Kelly Black.

0:09.2

Hey friend, it's Kristen. Grab your scriptures and let's dive into 1st Samuel 1, verse 15. Now, I have always struggled with prayer. It does not feel natural. It doesn't feel instinctive. I wish it did, but it doesn't. And so I am

0:22.4

constantly working on my prayer relationship with God. During the time of the judges, an Israelite man

0:28.5

named Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Pamina. I'm saying that wrong. I'm 90% sure.

0:34.7

Now, Panina had born Elkina many children, but Hannah remained barren. And even though

0:39.4

Elkanah loved Hannah dearly, she struggled with the taunting of Panina over her inability to bear

0:45.7

any children. One day at the temple, Hannah prayed so earnestly and sorrowfully that the priest

0:51.5

accused her of being drunk. Hannah answered him saying,

0:55.1

No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink,

1:01.7

but have poured out my soul before the Lord. Hannah was so intent on prayer that she described

1:07.4

it as pouring out her soul. Her example has taught me a new and better way to pray.

1:13.2

When I fall into a routine prayer, I try to picture my soul as a barrel. I pray and pour out all

1:19.7

of my feelings until I can scrape the bottom of that barrel. I have found that when I focus on pouring

1:25.4

everything out, it feels like I'm really talking to and connecting with Heavenly Father. Because of that when I focus on pouring everything out, it feels like I'm really talking

1:28.3

to and connecting with Heavenly Father.

1:30.3

Because of that, I can hear him better.

1:32.3

So if you also struggle with prayer, you might see if you can get to the bottom of your

1:36.3

personal barrel during your next prayer.

1:39.3

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, pour out your prayers.

1:44.9

Thanks so much for being here today and for coming closer to Christ with me one minute at a time.

1:52.2

Hey, parents, how confident are you that your kids know how to recognize the Holy Ghost?

1:57.1

Or get an answer to prayer or to know what to do if they don't get an answer to prayer.
