The campaign is underway for the presidency.

To my reading, this is the first occasion since 1912,

when two presidents have gone against each other.

That would have been Teddy Roosevelt matching

against his hand-picked William Howard Taft in 1912. Well that is a century ago and I welcome

John Cochran, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, also an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute,

author most recently of the fiscal theory of the price level, to comment on the grumpy economist, his blog, and what we can learn from both

campaigns watching how they proceed. First the Republican campaign which is

divided into factions much like 1912.

There were the Bulmooseers and there were the Republicans, and they contended with each other

for headlines, much the same way we see with Donald Trump and his supporters

to make America great again, and then there are the so-called never-Trumpers, the dissenters

in the Republican Party.

At the same time, the Democrats are participating in this from afar, maybe purposefully.

There's great wit in your analysis of the campaign. I wonder if it would have been this witty in 1912 when everybody was so excited about progressivism. Here we are in the Republican camp and Mr. Trump is doing extremely well
