Hello and welcome back to Sociology 101.

Today we're going to be talking about probably the central most used apologetic proof text

supporting the claims of Calvinism with regard to God choosing

certain individuals before the foundation of the world, unilaterally picking them to become

Christians through effectual means. And Romans 9 is probably the most quoted apologetic proof text from Calvinist because it's the only text that even comes close to suggesting that this concept and idea of double predestination, reprobation, is a biblical concept.

And this is the most used text to rebut anybody who brings questions.

So whenever you say, well, that's unjust or that's not

right or that doesn't seem like what God's saying or these things, Romans 9 is oftentimes the big

quote, right? This is what we always hear. And that's what we're going to unpack today,

talking about the metaphor, really, of the clay and the potter analogy. Now, we're going to try

not to go super long on this one because it does seem that we do better when we keep them short, bite-sized as far as reaching

more people with these broadcasts. And so bear with me as we try to get through a lot of material

in a very short amount of time. I've pulled together all of the uses of this metaphor of clay,

pot analogies throughout all of the scriptures.

We pull them in and we're going to look at each one of them to understand why

Calvinism not only isn't the correct interpretation, but it can't be the correct interpretation based upon the whole of Scripture.

Now, we have to understand something. In our culture today, right now, we have so many different sorts of containers and materials that they're made out of.

We've got, you know, cotton and canvas bags.

We've got wood and cardboard and porcelain and concrete and plastic and on and on and on and on.

But in biblical times, they were all basically the same thing.

They were made out of basically the same material, clay and water.

That's just the way that it was.
