Today we’re going to talk about postmenopausal estrogen. Before you go through menopause, the ovaries are working and producing estrogen. But, after menopause, when your ovaries go into retirement, you’re going to get it from other places.
You can actually get it from your fat cells. If you have a lot of body fat, you could start making excessive amounts of estrogen. You can also convert some of your adrenal hormones into estrogen as well, but it’s not as much as your fat.
There is an enzyme called aromatase that helps you convert fat into estrogen. This is one reason why some women end up with an estrogen dominance situation after menopause that can lead to other issues.
Potential symptoms of a postmenopausal estrogen dominance situation:
• Cancer
• Hot flashes
• Night sweats
• Vaginal dryness
• Depression
• Irritability
A fatty liver issue can also cause a woman not to be able to clear out estrogen properly, and it can build up even more.
There are 3 types of estrogen:
• E1-Estrone (produced by the adrenals)
• E2- Estradiol (made from the ovaries, fat, adrenal hormones)
• E3-Estriol (you have pretty much only during pregnancy)
One thing you can do is take a natural aromatase inhibitor, such as:
1. White button mushrooms
2. Stinging nettle root
3. Grape seed extract
4. Maca
5. Quercetin
6. Licorice
7. Genistein
8. DIM

| 0:21.6 | Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Keto and Interminute Fasting Podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weight. So let's talk about postmenopausal estrogen. Now, before you go through menopause, |
| 0:51.9 | roughly about age 50, 52, the ovaries are working and they're |
| 0:57.8 | producing estrogen. But after your ovaries go into retirement, when you're in menopause, |
| 1:05.8 | postmenopausal, you're going to be getting your estrogen from other places, not necessarily the ovaries. |
| 1:13.4 | And the biggest place you're going to get it from is from your fat cell. Now, if you have a lot of |
| 1:18.4 | fat on your body, then you're going to actually start making excess amounts of estrogen. |
| 1:25.8 | You're also going to convert some of your adrenal hormones into estrogen as well, |
| 1:30.7 | but it's not as much as your fat. Unless you don't have a lot of fat, then you'll probably be in better |
| 1:37.0 | shape. But if you have excess amounts of fat in your body, chances are you're going to convert that |
| 1:43.7 | into estrogen, and there's an enzyme that helps with that. |
| 1:48.5 | And this is one of the reasons why women end up with estrogen dominance after menopause |

| 2:10.1 | you're not going to be able to clear out estrogen properly, and estrogen will build up even |
| 2:14.4 | more. So you end up with this situation when you have way too much estrogen. And now that estrogen can also put on more fat and you're kind of stuck between a rock |
| 2:23.1 | and a heart place. And there's three types of estrogen, estrone, estradiol, and estriol. Okay? |
| 2:31.8 | Estriol happens pretty much only when you're pregnant, so we're not going to talk about that. |
| 2:38.4 | Estrone and estradial are the biological active form of estrogen. And this one is produced by the adrenal. |
