Hey, this is John Gordon with your positive mindset Monday.

So lately, my wife and I have been watching the special on Billy Joel, and it's on HBO Max, and it is incredible.

It's all about his life, but also his songwriting, how his songs came about.

And basically I learned that he was telling stories through his songs,

stories about his life, stories about his relationships,

stories about messages that he wanted to share with the world

or what he was seeing in the world.

And as a storyteller, someone who actually writes books and tells stories, I was just

enamored with that and I just loved that.

And I thought about how it applies to us that every day we are telling ourselves a story.

We are living a story. But the story that you actually live is the one

that you are telling yourself. What story are you telling yourself? Is it a drama? Is it a

horror story? Is it a documentary? Is it an inspirational tale as I believe it should be in so many ways because

we face adversity and challenges and setbacks? And so when it's an inspirational tale and you're

the hero in your story, you get knocked down. You get beat up. You face failure and rejection

and setbacks. But that hero and that inspirational tale

gets back up. And when you're the hero in your own inspirational story, you get back up and you

overcome the challenge, you overcome the obstacle, and you get stronger as a result of that.

And because of that strength, because of that perseverance, you, the hero, becomes someone

who can impact the lives of others.

And you do.

In all the great movies, the hero ultimately saves someone and saves the world.
