Today, a portrait of Sandra Cizneros really doesn't need an introduction. And that's because her classic coming of age novel, The House on Mango Street, has sold over 6 million copies, is taught in most U.S.

elementary schools, and has been translated into over 20 languages.

The book has turned this Chicago native into a household name.

With a writing career that spans over 40 years, Sandra is one of the most renowned Mexican-American

authors of our generation.

One of her latest published works is a bilingual chat book titled

Puro Amor, where Sandra captures a moment in the lives of Frida Gallo and Beaur Rivera in the famous Casa Asuri.

She writes about Frida's love of her animals and throughout the pages of this tiny book in a first for the author Sandra includes her own

illustrations of her beloved animals her perritos. In 2019 Sandra C Neros joined me for a live conversation at the National Museum of

Mexican Art in the City of Chicago.
