convened in St. Peter's Square this morning for the funeral mass of Pope Francis. People from around the

world travel to Rome this past week

to pay their respects, but his death was perhaps most acutely felt thousands of miles away in Latin America.

Home to some 40% of the world's Catholics, they were immensely proud of the first South American

Pope, and although he never returned to his native Argentina,

Pope Francis did visit several other countries in the region, including Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico,

where Will Grant reflects on his legacy.

Miguel Pantelion's earliest memory is of accidentally kicking a football into a

neighbour's yard in the dusty Mexican village of Rincon del Carmen. As the young boy, the 11th of 13

siblings, gingerly crept into the next-door property to retrieve his lost ball, the elderly owner emerged.

Rather than scold, Miguel, he told the impressionable child something

which would stick with him for life. He said, you have a divine calling, Miguel remembers,

although back then I didn't know what he meant. Some 30 years later, Miguel was ordained as a priest

in his parish church, just meters from that house,

fulfilling his neighbour's eerily accurate prediction.
