Hello, welcome to pop culture rewind. Hi. Hey. So today we're going to talk about one of the more controversial figures in rock music and that is Courtney Love. People seem to love her or hate her. What are your feelings on Courtney Love, Rachel? Well, I grew up absolutely loving Courtney Love. I was

obsessed with her. And even from a young age, I could see how much misogyny fueled the dislike of her.

Right. I mean, obviously, live through this celebrity skin. Those are like iconic

90s albums. Yeah. And I am always fascinated by people who seem to have a lot of public hate

regardless of what I feel about them. It's sort of a fascinating thing to kind of explore.

Yeah. I'm sure we will probably do a full main episode on Courtney Love at some point,

so I won't get too much into her life.

But this is definitely a person with a very complicated backstory.

She had a tumultuous childhood.

She spent time in juvie.

She did embark on an acting career before she even became a famous musician.

She did a lot of weird indie projects, including sending in a self-audition tape for the role of Nancy Spungeon in the movie Sit in Nancy.

Famously.

She did eventually get a small part in that movie. She came,

became bored with this sort of celebrant level of fame she had. She moves to Alaska where she

is a stripper and trying to figure things out. She decides she wants to start a band. She moves

to L.A. puts an ad in the paper. I want to start a band. My influences

are big black Sonic Youth in Fleetwood Mac, which I love that combination. This is how

whole begins. One of the greatest band names ever. Everyone needs to be like, we don't talk about

that enough. She continues stripping

in L.A. to earn money, notably at Jumbo's Clown Room. And Hull rises up in the ranks pretty

quickly. During this period, she dates Billy Corrigan before moving on to Kurt Cobain, and we know the rest of that story.
