Hello, welcome to Hollywood crime scene. This is another edition of Pop Culture Rewind. And today we have a very special episode brought to us from Desi Jettiken.

We're going to work on the intro. No, that's amazing. So I'm really excited today. I've been wanting to talk about this for a very long time.

And we're going to be discussing the 2003 documentary Living with Michael Jackson. This was produced or done by the British journalist Martin Bashir. He started following Michael Jackson

in May of 2002 and kind of traveled with him and interviewed him for about seven months.

It was broadcast in the UK on ITV on the 3rd of February 2003 and then aired three days later on ABC with a Barbara

Walters intro. So they kind of, Barbara Walters did up. Now, this was appointment television

for 16-year-old Rachel. This was crazy. Like, I just like, I kind of miss these days where you had these huge celebrity

interviews, like the Whitney Houston one, which probably will cover at some point as well.

I just feel like we haven't had one in a really long time. Is it just because we're all streaming

now? I think, A, celebrities are more accessible in sound bites from celebrity.

There's no event television like there was, especially network event television.

Yeah, because I was sat for almost all of these celebrity interviews with Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Katie Kirk, whoever.

And this one in particular, I mean, it's wild that someone as famous of Michael Jackson

was still so unknown and mysterious in many ways.

Yes.

And I think he's just kind of made for something like this.

In this documentary, we get a tour of his home, Neverland Ranch. Martin Bashir travels with

Michael to Las Vegas and Berlin. And we get discussions about his family, his unhappy childhood,

plastic surgery, and his relationship with children, his and others. So just a little bit more about this documentary.

Following the broadcast, Jackson felt very betrayed by Martin Bashir. He complained that the film

gave a very distorted picture of his behavior. And he even accused Bashir of cutting out

instances where Bashir is like, yeah, I totally agree with that.
