erupting around them. Objects start moving without anyone touching them. They fly across the room

and bang into walls. Sometimes they hit and injure people. In the 1800s, a name was given to

these frightening phenomena. Poltergeists. So what are poltergeists? What's responsible for them?

And what is the latest research reveal? Well, that's what we'll be talking about on this episode

of Jimmy Aiken's mysterious world. So Jimmy, let's start right from the beginning. We do the word

poltergeists come from and what does it mean? It comes from the German language, which shares a

common history with English. In German, guist means spirit. Guist is the German form of the

English word ghost, which also means spirit, which is why the Holy Spirit is sometimes referred to

as the Holy Ghost. The other part of the word poltergeist is the German word poltern, which means

to make noise or rattle. Based on its roots, a poltergeist would be a noisy ghost.
