| 0:35.1 | Thank you, Andrew, for having me here for this conversation. |
| 0:37.3 | So, Andrew, I've interviewed you a number of times over the years. I've written about you a few times. |
| 0:42.6 | And I think I finally figured you out from reading this book. So there's a line in the book. |
| 0:48.1 | You talk about your time at Phillips Exeter, which is what we think of as an elite boarding school in New Hampshire. |
| 0:54.3 | You went to high school there. And you're right, I came out of Exeter with a newfound sense that the top kids in the country were no better than me. You're right. They might have been better than me at basketball, at music, but I could think and talk as well as any of them. Am I right? Is that the Andrew Yang origin story? I did graduate from Exeter thinking, OK, there is nothing magical |
| 1:15.7 | about our leadership class. |
| 1:17.9 | And that was reinforced when I met a couple of our presidents, |
| 1:21.4 | either while they were in office or afterwards. |
| 1:23.6 | And I came away from meeting them not thinking, |
| 1:26.1 | wow, there are these magical beings from |
| 1:27.8 | on high, but it's like, oh, these are people that, I'm vastly superior. No, I'm kidding. |
| 1:34.7 | There were human beings with failings and fallibilities, and meeting them and spending time |
| 1:40.5 | with them actually gave me the sense of unease because they were getting |
| 1:44.3 | ferried from event to event and ceremony to ceremony. I was like, oh my gosh, if this is what |
| 1:50.0 | they're doing, then who's actually going to solve the problems? And so that was one of the |
| 1:57.5 | reasons I decided to run for president. And did that continue when you were, so you met these presidents, you said you write in the book, your observation was they're tall, but they're not any smarter than I am. Did that continue when you were running for president? You were, you know, there was a big field in the area that you ran in 2020. You met a lot of the candidates that year. Did that impression continue? It sort of did, honestly. And I told a joke |
