Summary

When world events feel overwhelming, and your to-do list never ends, you don't need better time management. You need better focus. I was driving my Jeep, thinking about politics and productivity, when it hit me - most people aren't distracted, they're just focused on the wrong stuff. In this episode, I share why being strategically lazy beats being frantically busy, and introduce my 4D productivity framework that successful people use to win their days. Stop trying to do everything and start doing what matters. Your productivity problem isn't about effort. Featured Story I was driving my well-appointed 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee looking at the Daily Boost logo on my car play. What podcast do I want to hear? My first thought? Politics and productivity. I need a boost. I came home from the gym and told my wife over breakfast. She looked up from her oatmeal and said, "You're going to do what?" No, I'm not talking politics. Although I do sometimes in my business coaching groups where we've got extreme left and extreme right members who get along incredibly well. They're business people who need to communicate with the world. So yeah, I went there a little bit. But not how you think. Important Points Your entire experience in life is completely about where you put your focus - it's all up to you, not the world. You're not unfocused or distracted - you're the world's greatest focus expert, just focused on the wrong stuff. Being strategically lazy means not picking up everyone else's stuff, which frees all your time for what matters. Memorable Quotes "Ninety percent of what comes across your desk does not need to be saved or documented - delete it and move on." "If you can't delete it, delegate it completely - no tracking, no micromanaging, just hand it off one hundred percent." "You're already the world's greatest focus expert - you're just focused on the wrong stuff, so choose wisely." Scott's Three-Step Approach Delete everything that doesn't truly require your attention - toss away ninety percent of what crosses your desk. Then delegate or delay what remains - hand it off completely or push it to when it actually needs to be handled. Finally, do what's left and move on - if it can't be deleted, delegated, or delayed, just get it done fast. Chapters 0:02 - When politics and productivity hit me driving 0:28 - Hold my oatmeal: my wife's priceless reaction 1:32 - Instagram message from Greenland about chaos 2:29 - Your experience is all about where you focus 3:18 - Why I'm strategically lazy with my time 5:53 - The 4D productivity system that actually works Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. You're going to do what? I said, no, I'm not. I'm not going to talk politics. We don't do that. Although I do sometimes. I do. I will get into it. And today just a little bit. I have coaching groups, business coaching groups mostly. And we are extreme left and extreme right. And while I say extreme left, we are from go protest to scream about protest and everywhere in between. And we get along so well and we have the conversations and because they're business people and they need to learn to communicate with the world. So I will go there, but I won't go there here today. I'm not going to trigger anybody in that way. Don't worry about that, although maybe just a little bit. My name is Scott Smith. Good to have you here today. The reason I thought about this because I got an Instagram message from a gentleman in Greenland. I've been enjoying Instagram, by the way. Hey, Scott Smith at Instagram, if you use that platform, it pops up on my phone and I go, oh, look, somebody's nice. And I send you a note. And people are, like, freaking out, like in 60 seconds, they hear back from me. Not all the time, okay? But sometimes consider yourself lucky if it happens, but you'd be lucky more than you think. Wouldn't that be great to get luckier more than you think you would? So I got a gentleman there. He said, Scott, I'm in Greenland. and he didn't say it this way. I'll say it. We're like, we're going out over here. This is weird. All this stuff that's happening right now. I get it, man. Well, actually, I don't get anything because I'm an American. I don't understand anything outside America. You know that's true. Although you know with me, that's not exactly true. I have a worldwide worldview.

That's redundant. Nonetheless, he's kind of freaking out. I said, I get you, man. I'm not going to get political. He said, it seems like a lot of people are bullies. I said, yes, there's a lot of bullies all over the world. Power, it's politics, is everything. If you think this is new guys, I didn't even know what to say after that.

3:09.5

It's not.

3:24.3

Some people say it's been 10 years. It fell apart 10 years ago. No, it didn't. Some people say it fell apart 20 years ago. No, it didn't. Fell apart like 2,000 years ago. No, it didn't. I think it fell apart the minute the planet was formed. Read a history book. You figure it out.

3:24.8

There's nothing new here.
