The man accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents' dinner is now charged with

trying to assassinate a president.

And with that, he's facing life in prison if found guilty.

Prosecutors now say the man was carrying a semi-automatic handgun, a pump-action shotgun,

and three knives as he charged past a security checkpoint.

He got into a shootout with law enforcement, but thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.

Now officials say he's not cooperating with law enforcement, so investigators are mostly relying

on what they believe to be his manifesto written before the shooting. They're also digging into

his electronic devices and what may be his social media accounts. Reports say the suspect often

criticized President Trump online and got upset

that more powerful figures weren't taking action against him. It is believed he acted alone.
