Hello everyone and welcome to police off the cuff real crime stories. I'm your host,

retired NYPD sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD. Today we have a really

exciting show. It's in regards to the crime and author series. And the author

today of a book called The Godfather of Homicide, Vernon J. Gibbeth, a cop's cop,

and he absolutely is a cop's cop. We're going to get into some of the book, some of his war story, as we call him, as us coppers call him,

and realized this, that he also had a book out called practical homicide investigation.

That was and is the Bible of homicide investigation,

probably worldwide. Worldwide. I remember as a young supervising sergeant in the detective

bureau being mesmerized by this book and learning about homicide and how to respond to the scene,

the do's and don'ts and the taking the chances and the learning from, believe it or not,

and I was a boss almost my whole career, learning from detectives.

Any boss that goes into the detective bureau and doesn't learn from the detectives is a boob.

I'll tell you that right now because detectives can teach you a hell of a lot.

And because you outranked them, that's ridiculous to think that you can't learn from them.

Because you absolutely 100% can, should, and will learn from detectives.

And I'm sure Lieutenant Commander Geberth will tell us the same thing because he's a humble

man also.

And he, I remember reading in his book how he said he would learn from detectives.

So folks, hold on to your hats.

Hold on to your loved ones.

Hold on to your wig.

Hold on to your toupee. Hold on to your cup of coffee to your loved ones hold on to your wig hold on to your toupee
