Summary

In this episode, we talk about staying warm on the bike this winter and give tips for using winter wear you already own for riding on the trail. Spoiler alert: it’s easier than you think. The only tough part is motivating yourself to get out!

We also talk about what’s grinding our gears (closed-minded online commenters) and what’s stoking our spokes (groomed fat bike trails!) Don’t miss this episode.

Hey everybody, welcome to the single tracks podcast. Today's me, Jeff, and I'm here with Greg and

0:26.5

Aaron, and we're talking about staying warm on the bike in winter. Depending on where you live,

0:32.3

it may be really, really cold outside, or maybe if you're in Florida, it's absolutely beautiful,

0:37.0

and you should go out

0:37.5

and ride your bike and not listen to this podcast. There you go. So I want to start off by asking

0:43.4

you guys what's the hardest part about riding in the winter for you? The hardest thing for me

0:48.7

and probably for a lot of people is just getting the motivation to get out the front door in the

0:53.1

first place. When it's dark and it's cold, the weather's crappy, it's a lot easier just to say,

It takes more prep time and more forethought than riding in warmer weather does. Yeah, I agree. And getting out the door for me too is the hardest part,

1:28.7

but I always find that once I'm out and, you know, assuming I'm properly dressed, it's fine and

1:33.9

I'm having a good time. And I wonder, why was it so hard for me to get out the door? What is

1:38.5

your go-to piece of winter clothing for staying warm on the really, really cold days?

1:44.5

I'm going to preface this by saying, so Jeff and Aaron are down in Georgia, and I wrote a lot

1:49.1

of winters in Georgia, but having moved to Colorado and now, like, focusing on, you know,

1:54.1

legit snow fat biking, it's sort of been a totally different game out here, which has been

1:59.0

a real learning curve just in gear and figure out what I

2:02.4

need and what I don't. So now it's like I don't have one single piece of gear. You know, it's like I've
