Human progress has depended on economic disruptors since long before the advent of the internet. Motor cars remained rare luxuries until a disruptor called Henry Ford perfected the Model T assembly line. Today’s online auction, home-stay, ride-share and crowdfunding sites have generated markets and money flows that barely existed before, to the great benefit of providers and consumers. Today’s manufacturing methods — from 3D printing to advanced bioscience — have dramatically reduced the time and capital required to produce vital products.

So, who are the companies that are rewriting the rules in 2019? Following the success of last year's inaugural Economic Disruptor of the Year Awards, The Spectator and Julius Baer has come together again to celebrate creative entrepreneurship across the UK.

0:35.9	We're talking about nine of the 12 regional finalists we've
0:41.0	selected for London and the South. We had an enormous number of entries for this region.
0:48.1	Entries overall this year were 50% up on last year and just for this region we probably had
0:53.9	a hundred to choose from.
0:55.4	So we've had quite a challenge to sift that down to just 12.
1:00.7	Of course, there are elements of subjectivity in that,
1:03.7	but what we have chosen, as you'll hear,
1:05.9	as an extraordinary range of very creative and interesting businesses. So first I want to welcome Sean Sutherland,
1:14.6	a serial entrepreneur herself now turned to campaigning against plastic waste, particularly. But
1:21.3	Sean, just say a word about yourself. Thank you, Martin. Yes, so I am probably the most
1:26.9	least likely eco-warrieror you'll ever meet.
1:30.1	As you say, serial entrepreneur, been involved in many different businesses,
1:33.2	from Michelin-style restaurants to film production to design,
1:36.0	to actually being a massive plastic sinner myself, running a skincare brand internationally for 10 years.
1:42.2	And now I am co-founder of a plastic planet where we exist really with one primary goal,
1:48.3	which is to ignite and inspire the world to turn off the plastic tap.
1:53.5	And our second guest, Judge, is Charton Rist, who is a founding partner in Concentric,
2:00.0	which is a London venture capital firm.
