1:44.7	approved a bill that happened Wednesday night to legalize recreational marijuana. Clearly
1:49.9	a milestone for a country which has been in the throws of a drug war for decades now
1:56.8	leaving the United States between two countries that have now legalized marijuana. Of course, Canada did it already.
2:04.2	Now in Mexico, this was a

2:09.3	129 vote in Mexico's lower house, the Chamber of Deputies.
2:13.9	And that came more than two years after the Mexican Supreme Court ruled that the country's ban on recreational
2:20.5	marijuana was unconstitutional and more than three years
2:25.3	after the country had legalized medicinal cannabis.
2:29.5	So the Chamber approves this bill and
2:33.1	now it's going to kind of go into a lengthy discussion like us. Mexico has that bicameral
2:39.3	house, you know, the upper and lower chambers. But in its final form, the measure is widely expected to sail through the Senate before being sent to
2:47.9	President Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador, of course, Amelow,
2:52.5	who has signaled support for this legalization.
2:56.6	So this measure would allow adults to smoke marijuana and with a permit grow a small number of cannabis plants at home.
3:04.4	Additionally, you would grant licenses for producers from small farmers to commercial farmers to then cultivate and sell the crop.
3:13.9	So if assuming this goes through Mexico will join Canada,
3:18.3	and Uruguay in a small but growing list of countries that have legalized marijuana in the Americas.
