Today, I'm going to be joined by Rachel Kong and Priya Krishna to make a dish called

Kelli Welli.

Kelli Welli is a ganayan dish of fried, spiced plantains that none of the three of us had

ever tasted or made.

When we jumped on the Zoom to record this episode and started talking about it, it became

apparent right away that this was going to be the first or second, maybe third time that

any of the three of us had ever even peeled or cooked a plantain at home.

Even our recipe smitter, a coup amatago who has been eating Kalehweli all her life, confessed

that cooking it was something that was outside of her comfort zone.

So all of this got me thinking about this notion of comfort zones.

A comfort zone, as the internet will tell you, is a mental state where you feel at ease

because you're among familiar surroundings, you're doing things that you're accustomed

to.

There's nothing to make you feel stressed or anxious.
