Hello my friends. We are going over a basic concept today that I think might bear a little bit of repeating perhaps I can attack in a different angle. It is going to be raised bed plant spacing and the various

ways that you can approach that.

So when you pick a seed packet up, you will often find that the back or the inside will have at least some information on how to plant that seed.

It'll have the pH, it'll have the depth to sew it at, how far apart to plant it.

Now that's the one that you really want to hone in on, but if you're growing like I am in a

container, in a raised bed, or even in the ground, but still at home, the spacing recommendations

might not make a lot of sense.

So for example, you might see a corn pack

that says space a row three feet apart.

Why would you do that?

It makes no sense if you're growing in a home garden.

I don't know why it is this way but it still is this way and

there certainly are companies that are trying to change this.

Bridgette over at San Diego Seed Company.com is one of them, but these seed packets are often mapped to a

commercial agricultural application or a sprawling sort of like

victory garden style home garden, which really doesn't make a lot of sense for most of us

growing in smaller spaces. So what you should do is make a list of the plants that you want to grow and

then work on the cultivar selection. That is really the most important part

rather than, oh, I want to grow tomatoes, it is what cultivar tomatoes do I actually want to grow, right?

Or let's just say winter squash, which coincidentally you actually want to grow, right?
