So before I started podcasting on Girlboss Radio, I interviewed Mara Hoffman at LCD in

downtown LA with a super small group of people and this was actually after she decided to pivot

and completely changed the direction of Mara Hoffman, the brand. She was doing it in two ways,

aesthetically. She went from tribal bikinis, which I own to a more minimalist but still wild,

elegant natural vibe. And then she also pivoted her entire design and manufacturing process

towards sustainability. Hoo wee, that is a lot. First of all, pivoting your brand image is scary,

especially when that brand image still works, the people love it. Five stars, the buyers are still

ordering it, but what if you've changed? And that's what happened to Mara. She evolved. She wasn't

even wearing her own clothes anymore. And more importantly, she felt that her industry, the fashion

industry, was going completely against her values. So she was at a crossroads. Do you leave? Or do you

stay and be the change agent? So if you've never seen or heard Mara Hoffman, let me just visualize

her for you. Mara Hoffman is a walking, breathing earthmother. Can we cue some earthmother sounds?

Definitely birds. Leaves shuffling. Yes. There we go. Okay. So we have video proof of this because

when I was interviewing her, she literally was surrounded by leaves. One of them she named Bobby

Casadilla. That was great. I was like, yes. I think I'm just going to name one of my plants in my

office, Bobby Casadilla. You. That is your name now. She's the kind of person that would enter a room

and you would just see leaves part. And then like a vine would go around her ankle and then

there's all these sun rays peeking out from her hair. And then a hummingbird just flies toward her

and then stops and kisses her on the cheek. She truly has the presence of an earth goddess.

So you can imagine her conundrum of being in the fashion industry. The conversation we had years
