Summary
In this episode Beau and Jon David talk about the Do’s and don’ts of pipe tobacco gift giving.
First,Jon David starts the list with “Be Brand Conscious”, J. D suggests some sure fire brands for the beginner pipe smokers, he names brands including; Peterson, Cornell & Diehl, Sutliff, G.L.Pease,Mac Baren. For the experienced pipe smoker J.D suggests brands such as; Brebbia, 4 th Generation, John Aylesbury, Reiner, James Fox, Solani, Vauen, Wessex.
Secondly Jon David points out the one should be “price sensitive” - “you might find the loveliest $5 trinket in the world, but in the end it’s still a $5 trinket”. Remember the standard MSRP amount of a premium tin of tobacco is around the $10 amount, which should be a reasonable goal. Lastly the Goal is to either find something that the person would like, but haven’t tried yet, or something that they wouldn’t be able buy for themselves.
Thirdly, he says to do your research. some of the best resources for on the market would be tobaccoreviews.com, or a top ten tobacco’s list from a online retailer such as Smoking Pipes Top !0 tinned tobaccos these sites will allow you to understand more about the market and what your friends might want.
Fourthly, Jon David points out that packaging matters. Remember to be aware of how the packaging looks, as this adds to the appeal of the gift.
Lastly, J.D offers some suggestions for buying gifts for the cigar smoker naming such brands as; Rocky Patel, Perdomo, Arturo Fuente, Alec Bradley, Ashton, Drew Estate, Pedron, CAO, La Flor Dominicana, Punch, Cohiba. For the more experienced cigar smoker J.D suggests such brands as; My Father, Southern, draw, Warped, Crowned Heads, Roma Craft. | 1:11.2 | Hey, Bo. Good afternoon, man. Man, good afternoon to you, too, sir. How are you doing today? Man, I'm good. I'm really good. It's been a wild weekend. I'm exhausted and, man, wiped out, but things are great. Yeah, I got my little baby baptized into the church this weekend, so that was kind of fun. And really special. I had a lot of family in town for that. And had some of my Baptist friends. They were giving me a hard time. They were like, man, that's the fanciest baby dedication I've ever seen, you know. But, man, yeah, it was great. Had a lot of fun, man. So, yeah, but, man, wiped out. We just, you know, had family in town all weekend and getting geared up for a big week because we've got an event here in town later this week. But, yeah, what's going on with you, man? How are things in Houston? The bayou, the city. They're doing good, man. It's been, it's been good. |
| 1:13.8 | You know, we've, you know, I've mentioned in the last couple episodes we've been working on this play. And I kind of ran into kind of some good news and bad news with that. The bad news is that we had to push things back, but the good news is, instead of doing this kind of closed door showing, we're actually going to try to do it for about, run it for about a month and a half. |
| 1:25.7 | Oh, wow. |
| 1:26.5 | Yeah, so that people will actually be able to come to it and not just a select few. |
| 1:31.1 | No, that's great. Yeah, it is. It is. It's interesting because like when you change the scheduling, uh, you risk losing like half your cast, if not all your cast. So we'll see what ends up happening with that. but uh world I'm just not super familiar with you you know, but it is, I mean, it's encouraging just to hear that, you know, you're enjoying navigating it and, you know, things are working out. That's cool. Yeah. I haven't lost my mind yet. So, yeah, it's been good. It's been good. You can't lose what you don't have, Beau. That's exactly right. Well, let me tell you what we do have, and that's some amazing listeners. We've got some amazing supporters. In fact, we now have some amazing new club members that we've got to give a shout out to. Oh, man, that's great. First up, Squire level, Kevin Ehem. Eh, Kevin, eh, man. I guess that's how you say, M, E-H-M. Yeah, H. Kevin, man, I guess that's how you say, |
| 2:19.1 | M, E HM. |
| 2:20.3 | Yeah, man. |
| 2:20.8 | Kevin, dude, you have a short, interesting last name, dude. That's great. Yeah. See, I love this, because, like, we've got two new Squire members. The first one is Kevin, and I feel like his last name is just, set it's just set up for me just to go um but yeah e h um kevin thanks so much for uh for joining us |
| 2:36.6 | the next one i feel like is name is just set it's just set up for me just to go um but yeah e h um kevin thanks so much for uh for |
| 2:36.1 | joining us the next one i feel like is trying to try at the squire level yeah at the squire level now |
| 2:41.4 | of course yeah what i mean by this is that everyone knows that when you join the club you get your name |
| 2:46.8 | mispronounced well uh this next person chose to abbreviate their last name, which I can only |
| 2:52.4 | assume would have been a unique thing to pronunciate. I don't know. I only have a letter, |
| 2:59.2 | but, uh, uh, and I can't even, I can't even mispronounce it. Chris V. Chris V joining at the |
| 3:05.0 | square level and trolling me along with. It's Chris V. Well, and this, there could be a couple reasons for this, right? Bo, I mean, Chris Vee, Chris Vee joining at the square level and trolling me along the way. |
| 3:25.6 | Well, and there could be a couple of reasons for this, right? Bo, I mean, Chris might want to remain anonymous. We do have a lot of pipe smoker listeners that like to remain anonymous. This is true. He's probably a pastor. Trying to want, yeah, right, he's probably some Baptist preacher sitting in the woods somewhere. It's like, man, they'll run me out of town if they find me associated with these fools. |
