Perry Bacon Jr wrote a great piece for 538.com. Just documenting this. There are 14 states that are totally controlled by

Democrats. The Democrats control the governor's office, they control the

senior administrative offices, they control the House of Representatives or the

Assembly as it may be called or the you know whatever the lower chamber is called

and they control the Senate which is typically what the upper chamber is called and

I think we've got one, maybe two states that have a

unicameral legislature. So anyhow, 14 states that are completely

controlled by Democrats, 22 states that are completely controlled by Republicans.

So what do they do differently?

In the democratically controlled states, and this is just looking since 2010, this

would be the last decade basically, in the Democratic controlled states every

single one of them has passed a law to hike the minimum wage,
