Summary

Sebastian Weber is a sports scientist, coach of world class cyclists and endurance athletes, and consultant of multiple world class cycling teams and other endurance sports organisations and federations. He is also the co-founder of the physiological performance software INSCYD. In this two-part interview we discuss recent updates to the INSCYD platform and go deep into physiology and training concepts relevant for optimising endurance performance.    IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN ABOUT: -Block periodisation vs. mixing different types of training -Time-course of adaptations for VO2max and VLaMax -The challenges of increasing VLaMax  -Potential issues of high-intensity training when your VLaMax is low -Differences between VLaMax and VLaMax training between cycling, running, and swimming -Training zones -Training stress/load and recovery, and using carbohydrate combustion rates to figure out how much intensity is feasible to do -Differences between testing in the aero position compared to sitting up -How world tour cycling teams are using INSCYD     SHOWNOTES: https://scientifictriathlon.com/tts238/   THAT TRIATHLON SHOW HOMEPAGE: www.thattriathlonshow.com   SPONSORS: Precision Hydration - One-size doesn't fit all when it comes to hydration. If you want to paint it black and white like this,

0:03.0

and you say, I want a block of VLMX and a block of VO2MX training,

0:06.9

then I would advise work on the VLMX when you have the time.

0:12.5

Like your VLMX is not your quick fix.

with sebastian weber last week if you didn't listen to that already was a lot of it was to do

about the new updated version of the inside software,

0:57.4

how it works, how accurate it is, and so on. But this week we will be more generally speaking

1:10.4

concepts of that every endurance

1:12.3

athlete and coach should know if they really want to get the most out of their training program

1:18.0

so we'll tackle various subjects like block periodization versus mixing different types of training

1:24.0

the time course of adaptations for VO2 Max and VLA Max, potential issues with

1:29.3

high intensity training, especially if your VLA Max is low. And differences in different disciplines,

1:36.8

like differences between VLA Max when we compare cycling, running and swimming. We will talk

1:42.6

training zones and we'll talk training stress and recovery.

1:47.2

And an interesting aspect that Sebastian pointed out of using carbohydrate combustion

1:52.6

rates to figure out how much intensity is feasible to do or how much recovery is needed

1:59.1

between those harder workouts in particular.

2:02.7

So lots of great stuff coming up in this interview.
