The Tales of Peter Rabbit was first published in 1992 when she was in her 30s. Potter was an English writer, illustrator, natural

scientist, and conservationist best known for her children's books featuring

animals. The potter was typical of women of her

generation in having limited opportunities for higher education. Her study and watercolors of fungi led to her being widely respected in the field of mycology. In all, Potter wrote 30 books, the best known being her 23 children's tales. Let's get cozy.

The tale of Peter Rabbit.

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits and their names were Flopsy, Cottentale, and Peter.

They lived with their mother in a sandbank underneath the root of a very big fur tree.

Now my dears, said old Mrs Rabbit one morning, you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go

into Mr. McGregor's garden.

Your father had an accident there. He was put in a pie by Mrs. McGregor.

Now run along and don't get into mischief. I am going out. Then old Mrs Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella and went through

the wood to the bakers. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five current buns.
