He's the recipient of a Caldecott honor for creepy carrots, two E.B. White Read Aloud Awards,

Welcome, Peter. Thank you so much for coming on moms, don't have time to read books to discuss Fred gets dressed and all your other amazing works. And we're joined here, maybe, by my son, who's six years old. Well, hello, both of you. Yeah, it's nice to be here. Thank you. So, Fred gets dressed. we saw on Instagram that it was inspired by a moment you had with your own mom. Could you share the moment and the sort of the inspiration for the picture book? Sure. Yeah. Well, when I was a little kid, when I was about five years old, I was kind of exploring through my house and I wandered into my parents' bedroom

and I started playing with my mom's makeup. You know, and as a little kid, I was really artistic.

I loved drawing. Like most kids, I love drawing with painting, all that kind of stuff. So I had always

been like curious about the color that my mom put on her face. And so that day,

when I found myself there in her room alone, you know, I started kind of experimenting with her

makeup naturally. And eventually my mother walked into the room and she found me like that. And

her reaction was just really sweet and simple and lovely. And she just sort of smiled. And I had makeup smeared across my face at that point. She just kind of cleaned off my makeup. And then she showed me how she put on makeup. You know, and I kind of followed along. And we just had this sweet little moment together, kind of a fun, playful moment just playing around with makeup together. And, you know, it wasn't a big deal.
