about metabolism today. So it's going to be a, we're going to call it Metabolism 101, what it is,

simple, it is literally the sum of everything your body does to burn energy. So it's not one single

number. It's made up of different parts. The other thing I like to

make sure that people understand. And if you've ever heard me say your maintenance is not a set

number, it is a moving target. That's what we're talking about with metabolism. It isn't fixed. It does

adapt and things like activity level will greatly affect your metabolism,

your maintenance calories, lots of things, but we're going to get into those. But this first

section, we're going to talk about the four buckets of your metabolism, and then I'm going to

section is your BMR. So that is basal metabolic rate and this makes up 60 to 70% of your metabolism.

So this is literally anything that your body does just to keep the lights on.
