In this episode, part two of our three-part series, we're looking closely at the heart of

the poem, Books 5-12, in which Odysseus arrives in Faesha and provides the tale within

the tale of his adventures after the Trojan War.

We're discussing the significance of Odysseus' fantastical encounters and asking what they

might reveal both about his character and about the nature of our own progress through

times of safety, complacency, excitement, danger, and loss as we wind our way back home.

We're back for part two of our discussion of the Odyssey.

It was originally going to be a two-part discussion.

It's now been extended.

It's gotten bloated into a three-part discussion for good reason.

I think we spent last time between the main episode and the post-script talking about the

first four books up through the end of book four.

We talked about Helen and Meneleus in book four and also Proteus.

I believe in the post-script.

We discuss Proteus.

And so today's episode, our goal is to get from books five to twelve.

And then in a part three episode, we'll do the back twelve books.

So today we're talking about all of Odysseus' many travels and stories of his travels.

His crazy adventures.
