Summary

Romans 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 2:12-16 - For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

0:07.0	join me this morning. If you're new to the morning mindset, welcome. I'm so
0:11.5	thankful that you're here. We are studying the book of Romans today and we're in
0:16.0	Romans chapter 5 verse number 1. There are verses in the scriptures that are just so simple and so straightforward that
0:27.3	their simplicity just begs us to dig into them because they're stated so simply and yet there's so much
0:35.9	meat to them and that's what we're looking at today in Romans chapter 5 first
0:40.2	number one it says, since we have been justified by faith,
0:47.0	we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
0:52.0	Now on first glance, reading that verse, it doesn't seem like it's saying all that much.
0:58.0	And if you've been in the church for any length of time, you probably have heard that verse quoted or read in a sermon many many times.
1:06.0	And so it's kind of hard to get past the familiarity we have with the verse and get into the power of what it has to say to us but let's just walk through it
1:16.2	very slowly. Paul says therefore since we have been justified by faith now that's the case he's been making in all of
1:26.8	chapter four is that just like the Patriarch Abraham who was the father of the
1:32.4	Jewish nation, we too are justified by our faith in Jesus
1:37.9	Christ, just like he was justified by his faith in believing God when God made him certain promises.
1:46.3	So think about the way this is said.
1:48.6	It's stated here in the past tense.
1:52.4	Since we have been justified by faith. My friends is that how you think of
1:58.1	yourself as having been justified long ago way back at the cross when Jesus died for your
2:06.2	sin the moment you placed your faith in him whenever that happened in your life
2:12.3	that righteousness that God accounts to you
2:16.0	through what Jesus did on the cross
