My name is Crystal and during the month of December, we will be focusing on the four main themes of Advent,

which are hope, peace, joy, and love.

The word Advent means coming or arrival, and it is the four-week season leading up to Christmas

that helps us to focus on Jesus' first coming and also helps us look forward to his second.

Today, we are highlighting the theme of peace. Throughout our episode, today

we will see how God brought peace to the Israelites and how He promises us peace today.

Our main passage comes from Luke 1, verse 78 and 79. It says this, because of God's merciful

compassion, the dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who

live in darkness in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Last week, we talked about how the Israelites needed hope, but they also desperately needed

peace. Throughout the Old Testament, there are descriptions of bloody battles, tension within

tribes, judgment due to unrepentant sin, people being exiled, and so much more. Life was often

anything but peaceful for God's people. But fortunately, God promised to bring them peace through a

Savior.

Our verses today are part of yet another prophecy this time through Zechariah.

As a reminder, Zechariah was the father of John the Baptist who was born after the Lord took away Zechariah's speech because of his unbelief.
