main themes of Advent, hope, peace, joy, and love. The word

Advent means coming or arrival. It is the four-week season leading up to Christmas that helps

us focus on Jesus' first coming and helps us look forward to his second coming. Today, we are

highlighting the theme of hope.

We will start with the hope God gave the Israelites in the Old Testament,

how Jesus brought hope in the New Testament,

and end with the hope that God promises us today.

Our scripture to anger us today is Matthew 121.

It says, She will give birth to his son, and you are to name

him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. First, we will talk about the hope found

in the Old Testament. Hope is something God's people knew well, for they had been in a posture of hoping

for thousands of years. From the point that sin entered

into the world, God promised that a Savior would come and redeem his people from evil. Throughout the Old

Testament, the prophets reiterated the promise of a Messiah, an individual that would liberate Israel

from oppression and provide the sacrifice needed to forgive all sin.

The Israelites hoped and hoped and hoped. They rejoiced in hope when God raised kings who were victorious for his kingdom.
