Summary

In a change to our planned hustings, unfortunately the Green candidate Ian McCulloch was taken ill and not able to attend. We'd not heard from the Labour, Liberal Democrat or Conservative candidate so put our questions to George Madgwick standing in Paulsgrove for the Portsmouth Independents Party. 1. Tell us about yourself, your history, why you're standing for the party you are? 2. What are the top three issues for Paulsgrove - and what would you do about them? 3. Anti-social behaviour and crime in general are issues across the city - what would you do to make Paulsgrove safer for its residents? 4. What needs to change about how Portsmouth City Council works? 5. In a cost-of-living crisis, how is another year of maximum level council tax rises justified - what would you see done to help those struggling? 6. The ward is poorly served when it comes to public transport - what would you do to change that? 7. If you're successful, what's top of your list do get done on day one? Don't forget you'll need ID to vote in person in May. Details here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate Follow us on Facebook, X, Instagram. Subscribe on YouTube. Good evening and welcome to the Pompey Politics Podcast. I'm Ian Tiny Morris. And I'm Simon Sandsbury.

0:13.3

And welcome to the first of our 2024 online hustings. For those of you that have been following along on

0:20.1

social media, you'll realize that this

0:22.3

year has been slightly different in that we have not been exactly inundated with candidates,

0:27.6

but a few good folk have stepped forward and put their hands up, but it is still not without

0:33.9

its challenges this year, is it, Simon?

0:36.9

So our plan showed we've had to tweak slightly.

0:40.5

Yeah, those observant of our viewers will notice that there's actually only one candidate present.

0:49.0

There was an intention to be two candidates present for the Pauls Grove Ward hustings. Unfortunately,

0:55.7

we didn't hear from the other candidates for the ward. But sadly, we received notification

1:03.4

this afternoon that Ian McCollock, the Green candidate, is sadly been taken unwell, so isn't able

1:08.8

to join us this evening. So in a kind of a bit of an

1:13.3

unusual situation, we took the decision to still go ahead and give us an opportunity to put

1:21.1

those questions to George Madrick, who is the Portsmouth's the Independence Party candidate for

1:25.9

Palsgrove. Welcome, welcome, George.

1:28.2

Welcome, guys.

1:29.2

How are you?

1:30.8

We're fine, thank you very much.

1:32.4

A bit of a scrappy afternoon.

1:33.5

But as Ian was saying,

1:36.1

have you got any idea why we're kind of struggling to get the,

1:39.8

to get everyone saying yes,
