0:07.0	Have you ever been fired? I have. It didn't feel excellent at the time, but in retrospect it turned out to be one of the greatest things that ever happened to me.
0:21.0	In fact, I probably wouldn't be here talking to you right now if I hadn't been fired long
0:25.2	ago as a postdoc working away at Stanford University and what I thought was my dream job and it turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare. But I'd never
0:35.1	been fired before I had no idea what to do next and I really wish that I had a
0:39.7	book like your next five moves to kind of guide me not to the final destination I think that would be
0:45.2	asking too much and it would be impossible for me to really be able to glimpse what the future might hold
0:50.3	given the traumatic circumstances of that recent termination.
0:54.8	However, having it now and thinking about the lessons that we can learn today from our
1:00.5	guest, Patrick Bet-Dabid, into the impossible.
1:05.0	Thinking about what you do next,
1:07.2	it doesn't mean you have to know where you're
1:09.2	going to end up.
1:10.7	Oftentimes, it's important as a pilot to know your first few stops your first few
1:16.3	waypoints along the way on your flight plan and if you miss it you're in for
1:21.8	disaster so it doesn't give you a guarantee of success of getting to the destination. But without a flight plan, you're basically planning to fail. There's a saying that I quote often that if you're off by just a quarter of a degree, you can miss the moon.
1:37.0	The moon is only about a half a degree wide, so you only have a tiny window, a little radius, to make it to your destination. and so if you're off by this tiny half of a half of a fingernail
1:49.0	held out at arm's length you'll miss the moon and so it's important to get the first few moves down, right?
1:55.8	And then hopefully you'll get to the destination intact.
