the First World War would be defined by artillery more than any other arm it would reach unbelievable heights of importance, size,

and ability during the war. However, even with this importance, which nobody would dispute,

it often fades into the background of history.

This is something I am as guilty of as anybody else.

Artillery on the World War I scale is remarkably hard to properly describe in words.

There was a constant shell fire over the front during engagements, but you can't talk about

artillery all the time, since it was doing, since what it was doing was quite boring.
